Climate Change

IFM Investors owns and manages assets in different asset classes and industry sectors across the globe. As a large investor in infrastructure assets, our investments are vulnerable to both physical and transition climate change risks and opportunities, and we have a responsibility to act. The following beliefs underpin IFM Investors’ approach to climate change management:

  • Climate change poses a systemic risk with potential to negatively impact the environmental, social and economic stability of every country.
  • Climate change presents significant risks and opportunities that can alter the risk return profile of assets for investors and asset managers.
  • The Paris Agreement will help map a pathway to a safer climate to maintain economic prosperity. We support the Paris Agreement goal to limit the global average temperature to 2°C above pre-industrial levels.
  • We must diligently consider the impact of our investments on climate change and vice versa to support markets’ long term growth and prosperity.

Australian Infrastructure Carbon Reduction Initiative

IFM Investors understands the risks and opportunities that climate change poses for our infrastructure assets. During FY2019, we worked closely with our major Australian infrastructure assets and their co-owners to commit to emissions reduction targets and pathways. This important initiative reflects our commitments to managing climate change risk.

These commitments include:

  • Continuing to measure our emissions footprint. (Read our Infrastucture Carbon Footprint reports.)
  • Establishing emissions reduction targets and pathways.
  • Reporting annually on these measures.
  • Undertaking physical and transitional risk assessments.

Modern Slavery

At IFM Investors, we are committed to preventing acts of modern slavery and human trafficking from occurring within our business and supply chain, and impose the same high standards on our suppliers.

We are focused on investment returns over the long term, but making sure that we achieve these returns in a way that is socially responsible and ethical.

In accordance with the UK’s Modern Slavery Act 2015, IFM Investors has undertaken to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking is not taking place within our business or supply chain.

We believe that diversity drives better performance. Further, we recognise the value of ensuring a diversity of views, cultures and opinions in the way we assess investments and make decisions.

For several years we have pursued the issued of gender diversity on ASX company boards, using our voting entitlements to advocate for change and to encourage the appointment of female board directors to listed company. The Board of IFM Investors is gender neutral.

IFM Investors is a member of the 30% Club Investor Working Group and we plan to continue actively campaigning for the appointment of appropriately qualified female board members to ASX boards.
