Melbourne Airport and Launceston Airport are operated by Australia Pacific Airports Corporation (APAC) under a 50-year long-term lease from the Federal Government from 1997, with an option to extend for a further 49 years. Melbourne Airport is the second largest Australian airport by passengers, with 32.2 million passengers in FY2015, serving as the gateway to the state of Victoria, which has 25% of the Australian population and contributes 23% of the national GDP.
