The number of signatories to the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative (NZAMI) has almost tripled to 87 since it was launched in October 2020. Collectively, these 87 signatories manage US$37 trillion in assets, and reflect the growing global movement in support of a net zero economy.
IFM Investors is one of the 30 founding signatories and was Australia’s first asset manager to sign up to NZAMI. We have pledged to work together with co-signatory asset managers around the world to galvanise the asset management industry to commit to net zero emissions by 2050 or sooner. We will also work with our investors to align investments with net zero emissions targets by 2050 or sooner.
We are an active signatory, with representation on the NZAMI Advisory Group and the Paris Agreement Infrastructure Initiative (PAII) Working Group. As a major global infrastructure manager, we believe that we bring a different perspective to that of other signatories who have a stronger focus on listed equities and debt.
IFM’s Executive Director, Responsible Investment, Chris Newton, represents IFM on the Advisory Group and is Co-Chair of the PAII Working Group.
The Advisory Group, comprising six signatory members, aims to champion the objectives of the initiative, to act as spokespeople for NZAMI, and to provide recommendations and advice to its steering committee on operations and engagement activities.
The PAII Working Group will focus on developing guidance to support infrastructure managers’ net zero ambitions.
Our involvement with NZAMI reflects our focus on working collaboratively with like-minded investors globally to promote improved management and disclosure of climate-related risks.
We recognise the great power of acting collectively – that is why we are active signatories or members of a number of other climate-related coalitions.
IFM has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across our asset classes, targeting net zero by 2050. We believe the actions we take will help ensure we continue to deliver long-term risk-adjusted returns for our investors and their members and beneficiaries.
Working collaboratively with our investors and other investment industry stakeholders through coalitions, including the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors, the Australian Sustainable Finance Initiative and key initiatives listed below, is a critical element of our approach.
