IFM Investors adds to European Infrastructure Debt team with senior hire

IFM Investors today announced a significant investment in its Debt Investments Team in London, with the senior appointment of John Carey as Investment Director of European Infrastructure Debt.
John will be responsible for the origination, analysis and execution of infrastructure debt investments in the UK and Europe, and will report to David Cooper, Executive Director, Debt Investments at IFM Investors.
John brings over 13 years' experience in infrastructure to his role at IFM Investors. He joins the firm from Moody's, where he was Senior Analyst in Infrastructure Finance, focused on ratings of European PFI/PPP and airport credits. Prior to this, John was Director in the infrastructure and project finance team at Barclays, having joined that firm in 2008 as Associate Director. He has also held roles at Financial Guaranty Insurance and KPMG.
Commenting on the appointment, David Copper said: "Investors have increasingly turned to infrastructure debt as a defensive allocation, given the low real returns from conventional sovereign bonds. Over the past two years, we have made great strides building specialist resources to offer infrastructure debt expertise to investors on a global scale. John's experience will support our ability to deliver tailored madates of high-quality credit for institutional investors that seek income flow, a degree of inflation protection and diversification benefits."
IFM Investors has a 15-year track record of investing in infrastructure debt for long-term institutional investors. It expanded its infrastructure debt capability to the UK and Europe with the appointment of David Cooper in December 2012, and expanded to the appointment of Rich Randall as Executive Director Debt Investments in 2013.
Globally, IFM Investors’ Debt Investments Team is made up of 21 investment professionals and manages A$2.9 billion in infrastructure debt investments.
