IFM Investors appoints Chris Newton as Executive Director for Responsible Investment

IFM Investors has announced the appointment of Chris Newton as Executive Director, Responsible Investment.
In this important role, Mr Newton will work across the investment teams to develop and continue to enhance their responsible investment strategies and support the evolving ESG needs of investors. He will ensure that responsible investment considerations are embedded in IFM Investors’ asset management, investment and reporting frameworks, benchmarked against global best practice.
Mr Newton joins IFM Investors from Australian Post, where he was Head of Social Innovation and Development.
“Chris has extensive experience across the Environmental, Social and Governance sector and he will be integral in providing leadership for IFM Investors in this capacity,” said Brett Himbury, Chief Executive.
“We’re looking forward to Chris applying his deep understanding of finance, capital markets, public policy development and corporate responsibility to drive enhanced ESG outcomes for our shareholders and stakeholders.”
Amongst Mr Newton’s notable achievements are the design and execution of social initiatives for Australia Post, and integrated community engagement programmes with the Federal Government. As Principal Economic Advisor in the Premier’s office, he led the development of the State Budget and coordinated a number of policy papers on energy, infrastructure delivery, tax, and climate change. As a Senior Economic Advisor to the Treasurer’s office, he provided public policy advice on public private partnerships, energy and resources, water, sustainability and corporate governance.
Mr Newton will commence his new role on 22 June 2016 reporting to Josh Lim, Chief Commercial Officer.
